What can I expect from a Holistic Massage?

The word ‘Holistic’ means encompassing the ‘Whole’. Prior to any massage treatment taking place I will sit and talk with you. I will ask you some questions about your medical history and lifestyle and you will have the opportunity to explain to me your preferences and what you are looking to achieve from the massage. We will then make a plan together.

I will use a combination of manipulative techniques to move your body’s muscles and soft tissues with a focus on your individual needs:

Effleurage – Smooth gliding strokes which warm your muscles and promote relaxation.
Petrissage – Rolling, squeezing and kneading of the deep muscles to help release tension and improve circulation.
Tapotement – Rhythmical percussive movements such as patting and tapping to stimulate the body.
Friction – Deep, circular movements that rub the layers of tissue against each other to create friction, which increases blood flow and can help break down scar tissue.
Vibration – A shaking/trembling up and down movement to stimulate tissues and promote relaxation.

What are the benefits of Holistic Massage?

Physical: Alleviating muscle tension, improving circulation, increasing energy levels and boosting your immune system.
Emotional and Mental: Reducing stress and anxiety, promoting relaxation, improving and enhancing your sense of wellbeing.
Spiritual: Promotes self-awareness, mindfulness, and a sense of connectedness to your inner self.

Contraindications for Massage Therapy

It is important to be open and honest in your initial consultation. There are some conditions where massage could be harmful or inappropriate. And there are some conditions where we must be cautious and adapt the massage to make it safe. On occasion it may be necessary to seek guidance/consent from a medical professional.

Unfortunately, you will not be able to have a massage if;
• You are under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
• You have a contagious disease, infection or fever.
• You have uncontrolled high blood pressure.
• You have had a recent injury and/or have acute inflammation.
• You have had a recent Surgical Procedure. You will need to wait until the surgical site is fully healed and there’s no risk of infection or inflammation.

This is not an exhaustive list of contraindications but, we can discuss any concerns that arise in your initial consultation.
